General notes
In addition to videos, you can upload presentation files (such as PowerPoint) and pdfs to Echo
Whenever you upload content to Echo, it’s added to your personal Echo library:
You can view and manage your Echo library from within Canvas.
Zoom recordings and classroom captures organized by the AV department should also appear in your Echo library.
There are three places you can link to Echo videos from within a Canvas course page:
the text editor
the Modules screen, and
the course’s blue navigation menu.
Of these, linking via the the text editor is recommended. Using the Modules screen or navigation menu is not preferred because both require using Echo's old section and class system, which is likely to be phased out.

WORKFLOW
1. Navigate to a NIDA Canvas course that you want to add the video to
2. Go to a screen in the course that offers the text editor. In this example, we'll use a Page.

3. Click to edit the Page

4. In the text editor, place the cursor where you want to add the video

5. In the toolbar across the top of the editor, click on the blue Echo360 icon

6. If you don't see the Echo360 icon, click on the plug icon, click on the plug icon and select View All. The click on the 'Echo360' link

7. In the box that pops up, make sure you are in the 'Library' tab

8. In the Library tab, you may see the video you want to link to appear straight away. If not, you can search for it
Searching only works if you start typing from the beginning of the title. Echo won't find your video if you start with the middle or end of the title.

9. You can scroll down in the list of videos to find the one you want
If you only have one video, or if your search only matches one video, you will only see one listed

10. Click to select the video you want to link to

11. Make sure the 'Link' switch is turned off, then click on 'Insert'
If the Link switch is turned off (ie to the left), then Canvas will embed the video in the page rather than linking to it

12. Click on the 'Save' button at the bottom right

13. You'll then be taken back to the main editor screen

15. ADDING A VIDEO BY CREATING A SIMPLE LINK
This is the same process as shown above for embedding a video, but we select a different option towards the end
16. Go in your course page to where you want to add the video then click on Edit to display the text editor

17. As before, click in the editor where you want to add the video, then click on the Echo360 icon in the editor's toolbar

18. In the 'Library' tab on the pop-up that then appears, search for the existing video in Echo that you want to add to Canvas

19. Click on the 'Link' switch to turn it on

20. Click on the video you want to add

21. Click on the 'Insert' button

22. Your link will then be added. You can now change the title of the link if desired

23. To change the link title, click on the link and wait for the box to pop up

24. Then select 'Link Options' in the box

25. In the pop-out that then appears at the right, click in to the 'Text' box and type the new title

26. Click on 'Done' at the bottom of the pop-out

27. Click on the 'Save' button to finish adding the new link

28. Click on the new link to test it. It should then open in a new tab in your browser, allowing you to play the video. Click to close the new tab to return to the main tab.
(If you see the ‘Not Yet Ready’ message, you will need to wait for Echo to process the video before it becomes playable. You can check if the processing has finished by refreshing the browser tab (hit the F5 key).)

29. You've now finished linking to videos that already existed in Echo. You did this two ways:
- by embedding the video
- by creating a simple link to the video.
