Echo360 is a platform used at NIDA to hold video content used to teach courses.


This content is then linked to from Canvas (aka NIDA Learn), which is NIDA’s learning management system.
Apart from videos, Echo360 can also hold audio files, pdfs and PowerPoint files.

There a number of ways that Echo360 can be used with Canvas
Two of these uses are:

  • Use 1: Uploading and linking to Echo360 content by staff

  • Use 2: Setting up Canvas so that students can submit video for their assignments.

Both of these will be described in detail below…

Use 1: Uploading and linking to Echo360 content by staff

The steps below cover the five main staff workflows for using Echo360 via Canvas.
These workflows are numbered 1.a to 1.e.

Detailed descriptions of these workflows are provided below - there are video and document versions of each.

C. Adding and linking content at the same time

1.e. ‘Uploading an Echo360 video via Canvas' → ‘’Adding content to Echo360 while linking to it from Canvas’ [mention this can be recordings or regular videoss, and that this can only be from the user’s personal library rather than from an Echo collection. If they want to link from a collection, it would be better to follow the ‘Linking to Echo360 content from Canvas’ workflow -AG]

Video assignments follow the same three-step sequence as for any other assignment, ie setup, submission and grading.


The Echo-preferred workflow using the ‘Online + Website URL’ option is shown below.
An alternative version using the ‘Online + File upload’ is also provided.
