This workflow covers the steps required for a user to link to an existing video in Echo360 from within Canvas.

This workflow is available to both staff and students.

WORKFLOW

1. Navigate to a NIDA Canvas course that you want to add the video to

2. Go to a screen in the course that offers the text editor. In this example, we'll use a Page.

3. Click to edit the Page

4. In the text editor, place the cursor where you want to add the video

5. In the toolbar across the top of the editor, click on the blue Echo360 icon

6. (If you don't see the Echo360 icon, click on the plug icon, click on the plug icon and select View All. Then click on the 'Echo360' link.)

7. You should then be shown a pop-up and be in the Library tab in this pop-up. If you’re not in the Library tab, click to select this tab.

In the Library tab, you may see the video you want to link to appear straight away. If not, you can search for it

Searching only works if you start typing from the beginning of the title. Echo won't find your video if you start with the middle or end of the title.

8. You can scroll down in the list of any videos you see to find the one you want

If you only have one video, or if your search only matches one video, you will only see one listed

9. Click to select the video you want to link to then click the Next button

At this point you get to choose between embedding the video into the Canvas page or just creating a simple link to it on the page. Both options are described below


OPTION 1. ADDING A VIDEO BY EMBEDDING THE VIDEO IN THE CANVAS PAGE

10. Make sure the 'Link' switch is turned off

If the Link switch is turned off (ie to the left), then Canvas will embed the video in the page rather than linking to it

11. Click on the 'Insert' button

This is the same process as shown above for embedding a video, but we select a different option towards the end

10. Make sure the 'Link' switch is turned on

Click on the 'Link' switch to turn it on. This will create a simple link

12. Your link will then be added. You can now change the title of the link if desired

15. In the pop-out that then appears at the right, click in to the 'Text' box and type the new title

REMAINING STEPS


The remaining steps in the workflow are the same whether you embedded or created a simple link to your video…

Click on the video to test it. It should then open in a new tab in your browser, allowing you to play the video. Click to close the new tab to return to the main tab.

(If you see the ‘Not Yet Ready’ message, you will need to wait for Echo to process the video before it becomes playable. You can check if the processing has finished by refreshing the browser tab (hit the F5 key).)

SUMMARY

29. You've now finished linking to videos that already existed in Echo. You did this one of two ways:
- by embedding the video
- by creating a simple link to the video.
You checked that the video then played in Canvas once you’d linked to it from Echo.
