This workflow covers the steps required for a user to add a video to Echo360 while at the same time linking to this video from Canvas.
This workflow is available to both staff and students.

Notes specific to this workflow
You can’t upload a video directly into an Echo360 collection.
This is because uploading a video and adding a video to a collection are separate processes in Echo.
So if you want to link from Canvas to a video and add it to an Echo collection, you can either
- upload and link to the video at the same time (ie this workflow), then as a separate step add it to the collection, or
- upload the video and add it to a collection, then as a separate step search for the video individually and link to the video.
WORKFLOW
1. Navigate to a NIDA Canvas course that you want to add the video to
2. Go to a screen in the course that offers the text editor. In this example, we'll use a Page.
3. Click to edit the Page
4. In the text editor, place the cursor where you want to add the video
5. In the toolbar across the top of the editor, click on the blue Echo360 icon
6. If you don't see the Echo360 icon, click on the plug icon, click on the plug icon and select View All. Then click on the 'Echo360' link
7. In the pop-up that then appears, click on the 'Upload Existing Media' tab
8. Click on 'Upload Media From Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, OneDrive For Business, Or Box.'
9. In the pop-up that then appears, you need to select where you will be uploading your content from. To upload directly from your device or computer, click on ‘Select Video Files to Upload' or ‘Select Files to Upload’
10. (If you will be uploading from a cloud location like Box, Dropbox or OneDrive, move your mouse over the left side of the pop-up and click on the desired location. Then select the file to be uploaded.
(In some browsers, you may have to click on the hamburger menu at the top left of the pop-up to show this side pane.)
11. If you are uploading directly from your device or computer, select the video file to be uploaded
12. Once selected, you are presented with a selection summary screen
13. If the selection is correct, click on the 'Upload' button at the bottom right
14. Once your upload is complete, click on the 'Close' button
15. You should now be shown the ‘Library' tab in the pop-up, and your new upload should show at the top of the list of videos in the Media section of this tab.
Depending on how large your video is, the video status may show for a while as ‘Processing’
(If your new video doesn't show you can search for it using the Search box. Searching only works if you start typing from the beginning of the title. Echo won't find your video if you start with the middle or end of the title.)
16. Select your newly uploaded video
If you only have one video, or if your search only matches one video, you will only see one listed
At this point you get to choose between embedding the video into the Canvas page or just creating a simple link to it on the page. Both options are described below
ADDING A VIDEO BY EMBEDDING THE VIDEO IN THE CANVAS PAGE
17. Make sure the 'Link' switch is turned off, then click on 'Insert'
If the Link switch is turned off (ie to the left), then Canvas will embed the video in the page rather than linking to it
18. Click on the 'Save' button at the bottom right
19. You'll then be taken back to the main editor screen
20. Test out the newly linked video to make sure it works
ADDING A VIDEO BY CREATING A SIMPLE LINK
This is the same process as shown above for embedding a video, but we select a different option towards the end
17. In the 'Library' tab on the pop-up, search for the existing video in Echo that you want to add to Canvas
18. Click on the 'Link' switch to turn it on
19. Click on the video you want to add
20. Click on the 'Insert' button
21. Your link will then be added. You can now change the title of the link if desired
22. To change the link title, click on the link and wait for the box to pop up
23. Then select 'Link Options' in the box
24. In the pop-out that then appears at the right, click in to the 'Text' box and type the new title
25. Click on 'Done' at the bottom of the pop-out
26. Click on the 'Save' button to finish adding the new link
REMAINING STEPS
The remaining steps in the workflow are the same whether you embedded or created a simple link to your video…
