How to Connect to Outlook - Student Guide

Welcome to NIDA! Follow the simple steps below to access your Outlook email using your student email address and temporary password. You’ll also set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and reset your password for added security.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Sign In to Outlook

  1. Open your web browser and go to the Outlook login page:
    https://outlook.office.com

  2. Enter your student email address (e.g., firstname.lastname@student.nida.edu.au) and click Next.

Step 2: Enter Your Temporary Password

  1. On the next page, enter the temporary password you received. This was sent to you by the Student Services department.

  2. Click Sign In.

Step 3: Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

  1. You’ll be prompted to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This adds an extra layer of security to your account.

  2. Select Next to begin the MFA setup process.

  3. Follow the instructions to download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone (available on the App Store or Google Play).

  4. Click Next

  5. Open the app and scan the QR code displayed on the screen.

  6. Once the QR code is scanned, your mobile app will generate a verification code. Enter that code to complete the MFA setup.

 

Step 4: Reset Your Password

  1. After completing the MFA setup, you will be prompted to reset your temporary password.

  2. Choose a new, strong password. It must meet the following criteria:

    • Must be at least 12 characters in length.

    • Must NOT be a previously used password.

    • Must NOT contain your name or username.

    • Must contain at least 3 of the following character types:

      • Upper case letter

      • Lower case letter

      • Number

      • Special character or symbol

  3. Enter your new password, and then confirm it by typing it again.

  4. Click Finish.

 

Step 5: Access Your Outlook Account

  • After resetting your password, you will be signed into your Outlook account.

  • You can now start using your email and other Outlook features.
