Common printer problems

These problems are common when printing using the Toshiba printer/scanner/copier machines.

  1. Printer is out of paper

  2. Printer status says ‘Skipped’ for your printing job

  3. ‘Prepare new waste toner box’ message

  4. ‘Toner near empty’ message

    Some solutions are suggested below.

If your issue is not listed here, please contact IT either via a helpdesk ticket (by emailing help.it@nida.edu.au) or dropping in to see them at the northern end of Level 1 near the Music Room.

  1. Printer is out of paper
If there is no paper in the paper trays, contact Facilities so they can bring up a box or two of paper from the basement.
Contact them via a helpdesk ticket by emailing help.facilities@nida.edu.au or drop in to see them on Level 1 near the student green room. Let them know whether you need A4 or A3.

  2. Printer status says ‘Skipped’ for your printing job
The printers hold A4 and A3 paper sizes.
Check your document is set to one of these paper sizes otherwise the printer won’t be able to print it.

The only exception to this is if you want to print using the side paper bypass tray. Checking the specifications listed online for one of the Toshiba models lists these paper possibilities:

    Regular paper?
    Sizes: 100 x 148 mm-320 x 460 mm,
    Weights: 52-300 g/m2

    Banner paper
    Sizes: up to 305 x 1,200 mm
    Weights: 90-163 g/m2

  3. ‘Prepare new waste toner box’ message
This is a warning that the box will need to be replaced. When the box is full a different message is displayed. If the box is replaced before it is full, the printer will ask for it to be reinstalled until it is full.

If you see a box replacement message (rather than a warning message), please contact IT to get this replaced. Contact IT via a helpdesk ticket by emailing help.it@nida.edu.au or drop in to see them at the northern end of Level 1 near the Music Room.

  4. ‘Toner near empty’ message
This is a warning that the toner cartridge will need to be replaced. When the toner cartridge is empty a different message is displayed. If the cartridge is replaced before it is empty, the printer will ask for it to be reinstalled until it is empty.

If you see a cartridge replacement message (rather than a warning message), please contact IT to get this replaced. Contact IT via a helpdesk ticket by emailing help.it@nida.edu.au or drop in to see them at the northern end of Level 1 near the Music Room.
